Mrs Lisa-Jane Sumption
Welcome back to the Spring Term....
Class 4 have had a great first few weeks of the Spring Term and are aready demonstrating an enjoyment of learning that is great to see!
Our topic this term is ‘Pole to Pole’ and is geography based with a focus on the Polar Regions. Again our English will link to this and will include poetry, fiction and composition. Science this term will be physics and chemistry and will cover forces, properties of materials and changes in state. Maths will incorporate decimals and percentages, algebra and ratio, and perimeter and volume. Whilst some of this will be new to the Year 5 cohort the Year 6 group will have the opportunity to revise, consolidate and deepen their understanding of these areas in readiness for the next step of their education.
We will be continuing with PE on Monday afternoons and so full outdoor PE kit, including spare socks, is essential in this chilly weather. The class will also be continuing to learn French and will be considering Islam as well as Jesus in the Christian belief in RE. In Art our focus will be sketching, working with modelling materials and with collage.
To support our collage work we have already made a whole class, multi medium picture representing the Polar Regions. This was a whole day activity during which the children wore clothes in which they are happy to paint and stick rather than school uniform! This was a great first day back and start to the new term and really enthused the class about their new topic.
Our educational visit this term will be a visit to the Eden Project in February to ice skate, which will link very nicely with the frozen seas of the Polar Regions!
Homework will remain the same next term but will also include SATs revision for the Year 6 group. Year 6 Club will continue on Monday evenings and will be a further opportunity for revision and consolidation.
As ever, we cannot emphasise enough the importance of hearing the children read at home and of supporting Spelling, Times Tables and Maths; we are noticing marked improvements in the work of those children who are completing homework regularly and would like to say a huge thank you for the support you are giving them at home.
We are looking forward to the term ahead and know that the children will work equally as hard as they have over the last few months; with Passion and Integrity as our core values this term we are expecting great things from them all!
