Mrs Lisa-Jane Sumption
Welcome back to the new school year!
A great summer has been had by all and we are now ready to settle back to a new term.
Our topic until Christmas will be World War 2, with an emphasis on the Battle of Britain. Within our study we will be looking at the reasons and causes of the war and will be improving our locational knowledge of the countries involved. We will consider life as a child during the war and will be talking to an evacuee of the time to help us understand what it was really like to be sent away from home and loved ones.
We hope to arrange a visit to Flambards World War 2 Experience to further our knowledge of living through the Blitz and will be learning and singing songs of the time that reflect the spirit and bravery of all involved in the war.
Design Tech and Art will encompass cooking using rationed ingredients, making a periscope and designing propaganda posters.
So ...exciting times ahead!
As well as topic work we will be continuing with Maths and English on a daily basis and our foreign language this year will be French. PE will be on a Monday and everyone needs to have PE kit at school suitable for both warm and chilly days.
Spelling and Times tables will be given on Fridays and tested the following Friday. Expectations remain high for practising these, and for reading at home daily! Homework will be topic based and expected to be completed by Friday each week. My Maths will be available online and linked to Maths being taught in class; this program proved really beneficial last year so we would like all pupils to participate.
We are looking forward to a great start to the term; the children have a lot to do and with the KS2 SATs at the end of the year, everyone will be very busy!
I would like to thank you in advance for supporting your child's learning and to invite you into school at any point to discuss it if you need to.
