Class 2 Teacher
SUMMER TERM 2022
I hope that you and your families enjoyed a restful (chocolatey) Easter break and that you are refreshed, ready to start the Summer Term! This term, Class 2 (Year 1 and 2 children) will continue to be taught by Mrs Arnold, ably supported by TAs Mrs Hatton (all day) and Mrs Bartlett (mornings only).
This term, our class topic is “Where We Call Home”, focusing on the geography of our wonderful local area and the wider county of Cornwall. We will learn traditional Cornish songs, read Cornish tales and use simple fieldwork skills to explore our surroundings. As we look at both the physical and human geography of our local area, we will explore how our local history has shaped the land, hopefully incorporating an educational visit to Wheal Martyn. We will also be creating our own artwork in the style of Cornish artist, Joanna Short.
Children will be provided with a healthy snack at breaktimes. Please ensure that your child brings a drink bottle each day to keep on their desk, containing only water.
All children should bring home a reading book and reading record. Reading at this age is so important and is the key to accessing the whole curriculum. Please ensure that you read daily with your child, filling in their reading record to let us know how they got on (noting any words or sounds they found tricky and sign it to say you have listened to them). We will continue to send home weekly spellings on Fridays – please encourage your child to practice these; they will be tested on the following Friday. You can also help your child this term by completing the home learning activities from the topic grid and weekly maths homework – these will be uploaded to Google Classroom on Fridays and due the following Friday. If you have any difficulty accessing Google Classroom, please let the office know so that they can help you with this.
Our PE will be on a Monday each week; please ensure your child brings their full kit to school on the first day of each half-term. They can then keep their kits in their lockers and we will send them home at the end of each half-term for washing.
If you have any questions or queries, we are always very happy to talk; parents can make an appointment to speak to us by contacting the school office.
