Mrs O'Mahoney

Teaching Assistant

We hope that you had a fantastic summer holiday and would like to wish you a warm welcome back to Class 3.

This term, our class topic is ‘The Anglo Saxons’ We have Mrs O’Mahoney as our TA in class.

Please find below an overview of the topic with some ideas of how you can help at home.

We will be launching this topic by drawing and painting shields and designing and making clay brooches. At the end of the topic, depending on Covid restrictions, we will hold a celebration of our class work. We would love for you to get involved by coming along to our gallery so we can show off the work we have done over the term (Date to be confirmed) In this topic the children will learn about who the Anglo-Saxons were and why they came to England, aspects of their daily life such as village life,  clothing, religion, the Saxon Army, famous Saxon leaders, famous Saxon stories and the archaeological finds at Sutton Hoo

You can help your child this term by reading with them daily. As you can appreciate, the more that a child reads the better their chances of success. There is a reward system in place that will encourage the children to read as much as possible. You should question them about the story to help them to develop a deeper understanding and make it an enjoyable experience.

Your child will receive spellings each week to learn at home. Please practice these with your child as much as possible. Work with them on their timetables as much as possible to help them prepare for the government times table assessment at the end of year 4. In class, the children will be assessed and set individual targets to work on. Please encourage your children to play on TTRockstars as this has shown to be an effective way to help the children to learn. Each Friday, your child will have a times table and spelling test.

Our homework will be set each Friday on Google Classroom and needs to be submitted by the following Friday. Google login reminders will be sent out in due course. We will be using a grid with different options of homework to help parents to balance their work and time effectively. Please encourage your child to log on to this each week.

P.E. will be on a Monday and the children need to come into school dressed in their P.E. kit. We will also be celebrating National Fitness Day on 22nd September, and we would like the children to come in wearing their P.E. kit on this day.

Following our healthy school policy, we ask that children bring only water in their bottles and that a healthy snack is provided for break times. Reading books need to be brought in every day as well as a coat in the colder/wetter months.

If you have any questions then please feel free to contact the office at hello@whitemoor.org.uk.

Kind regards

Mr Gray
