Welcome to our new-look website!

Class 4

Mrs Lisa-Jane Sumption

Class Teacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the Autumn Term!

We hope you have all had a great summer.

The new Year 6 are very much looking forward to the company of the new Year 5 children and, having spent time together during our transition days last term, know we will all settle very quickly into Class 4.

Our topic this term is ‘Vikings; Villains or Victors?’ Despite being a predominantly History topic, ‘Vikings’ will also be lend itself to Whitemoor’s immersive approach to teaching and will incorporate Geography and Science, Art and Design Technology and of course, English and Maths. Please see the Curriculum coverage list below.

As usual, any resources, information or knowledge about the topic from home is always gratefully received; the children do love being actively involved in this way. You could also support your child’s learning through reading around the topic at home, and encouraging some independent research to help them during the coming term.

Our ‘opening event’ this academic year will give the class the opportunity to take ownership of their immediate environment through art and design technology and so immerse the children in the Topic from the first day. As well as being a fun and enjoyable return to school it will also enable team building and cooperative working to help the children bond as a new class. As a celebration of our achievements we are planning a Gallery of written and art work at the end of the term, in which we invite you to share our successes!

We will also be arranging a School Visit this term in conjunction with Class 3 who are studying a compatible topic, and as soon as details are finalised we will let you know.

Homework this year will be as follows:

  •          Reading, Spelling and Timetables Practice every day - to be checked at school each Friday
  •          Topic homework as set
  •          My Maths on-line (or in class if no opportunity at home)

We really do value all the support you can give your child particularly with Reading, filling in Reading Record Books, completing tasks set and with encouraging homework to be brought in on time.

Reading Books and Reading Record books as well as PE kit need to be at school every day, as do water bottles for ‘in-class’ and a healthy snack for break time.  Helping your child remember these is of huge assistance to us in Class!

Finally, our Class 4 team would like to say a big ‘Thank you’ for all the support shown last year. Please feel free to call in to see us for a chat if you need to and we look forward to meeting those of you to whom we have not yet spoken on our ‘Meet and Greet Afternoon’ next Monday at 2.30 – 3.15.

Kind Regards

Mrs Sumption and Mrs O’Mahoney
