Class 4 Teacher
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the new Term! We hope you have all had a great holiday.
The new Year 6 are very much looking forward to the company of the new Year 5 children and even though we weren’t able to spend time together as we would normally do in the previous term, I know we will all settle very quickly into Class 4.
Our topic this term is Vikings, Villains or Victors? Although a predominantly History topic, it will also lend itself to Whitemoor’s immersive approach to teaching and will incorporate Geography and Science, Art and Design Technology and of course, English. Maths will be taught using the White Rose Maths Scheme.
As usual, any resources, information or knowledge about the topic from home is always gratefully received; the children do love being actively involved in this way. You could also support your child’s learning through reading around the topic at home, and encouraging some independent research to help them during the coming term.
Our ‘opening event’ this academic year will be within the first week. The activity chosen will be a fun and enjoyable introduction to the new Topic and will enable team building and cooperative working to help the children bond as a new class. As a celebration of our achievements, we are planning a Gallery of written and art work at the end of the term, in which we invite you to share our successes!
Homework this year will be as follows:
- Reading, Spelling and Timetables Practice every day - to be checked at school each Friday
- Topic homework as set
- Maths / SATs Revision (YR 6)
Google Classroom logins will be re-sent shortly.
We really do value all the support you can give your child particularly with Reading, filling in Reading Record Books, completing tasks set and with encouraging homework to be brought in on time.
Water bottles for ‘in-class’ and a healthy snack for break time will be needed each day. Helping your child remember these is of huge assistance to us in Class as by morning break everyone is in need of something to eat and drink to boost energy levels and brain function!
PE will be taught on Tuesday each week and we are asking that your child wears their PE kit to school each week; forgetting to do so can lead to huge disappointment! School are organising a Fitness day on September 22nd so PE kit will need to be worn on that day too.
Mr Dixon will be Class 4’s teaching Assistant this is year and Mrs Hooper will be teaching the class on Mondays; we are very happy to have her back.
Finally, our Class 4 team would like to say a big ‘Thank you’ for all the support shown last academic year. Please feel free to contact us if you need to make an appointment for a chat, we are always here!
