Promoting British Values

At Whitemoor Academy, we aim to ensure that all children leave their Primary Education with an understanding of Britain’s fundamental values and are well prepared for life in Modern Britain. Through our whole school assemblies, PSHE lessons and whole school ethos, we actively promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Fundamental British Values are taught implicitly and explicitly throughout the curriculum. Notably, through the use of the SCARF PSHE curriculum, children are given the tools to develop self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence. We encourage children to have the courage to question, challenge and form opinions on current news stories and societal issues as well as educating them on the history of our country. Children are given the opportunity to experience democracy first hand through high profile school council elections where they are taught about how democracy and laws work in Britain compared to other countries around the world. Children are given opportunities to develop their leadership and team work skills daily and are encouraged to celebrate each others successes and differences.

We believe that children are the voices of the future and it is our responsibility to support them in becoming valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and tolerance, regardless of background.
